Many times we are surrounded by issues that no one can relate to because they too have their own issues. After sometime of struggling with a particular issue, one can get used to it so much that it becomes who they are. Issues can make people forget your name and define you by the issues you are going through. We should not expect our fellow men to give us solutions, we should not expect them to fully understand; we don’t have the power to save one another. Are you defined by your issues?
In Mark 5:25-34 we are told about a woman with an issue of blood. That is what she was known for, her name is not even mentioned. You could be her, no one knows you by your name, but they know you by your issues and struggles. Even after twelve years of struggling with this issue of blood, she refused to accept it as part of her life. When she heard about Jesus, she did not hesitate; she went ahead to touch the hem of His garment, and ‘Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.’ She did not hide from the crowds, as filthy as she might have been, as impossible as it seems to get Jesus’ attention; she went ahead and gave it a shot. By faith.
The enemy might have lied to you that you will never survive the ship wreck, that your marriage will never be restored, that your situation is permanent, that you will never get past the mountain you are facing. Those are lies. Nothing is impossible with God. He can do what man can do, increasingly abundantly and above what we can think of or imagine. Don’t hide away the issues from God, don’t be used to the title ‘the woman with the issue of blood’, ‘the woman with wayward children’ ‘the barren woman’, ‘the drunkard man’, ‘the jobless man’, ‘the sick family’. No. God is able to turn things around and change your story. You are not your issues. You are the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus.
You too can be freed from your suffering, it doesn’t matter how long you have been going through the issues, it doesn’t matter how hopeless the situation is, it doesn’t matter how severe the issue is; Jesus is our ultimate healer, there is no issue that is above Him. Whether people know about your struggles, or you have kept it as a secret, we all have issues, what we are going through is common to man, but will not be taken away by man.
Do not let what you struggle with hijack who you are.
