Wrong Answer

One funny story I remember from primary school happened during an exam. I know, its very hard to laugh at anything during kenyan exams because of the tension in the room. But one day we had fun during an exam although we still failed. Anyway, this is what happened. Typically a teacher invigilating the exam would walk around silently peeping on our answers. So this time, the teacher could not hold back, we were all failing the first question. He went around saying ‘wrong answer!’ That was not the fun part. The fun part was everyone turning to the teacher and to each other asking ‘which one?’ Then filling the room with uncontrollable laughter. If you have gone through the Kenyan education system, this scenario should be funny.

A few months ago I was speaking to some teenagers on matters purity. I had some questions written down to stir them up for a discussion. most of them started giving me wrong answers. For example, I asked them if they were virgins and most of them answered by giving excuses why it was impossible to be a virgin in today’s generation. I asked them if they were born again and one girl said that loves Jesus while another one said that she is in the christian union in school. One boy confidently said that he has never missed sunday school since he was born. Guess what my response was to these answers. Yes, you guessed it right: Wrong Answer! I felt like my teacher way back in primary school, only that this time it wasn’t funny.

When it comes to matters salvation and religion, it is fundamental that we stand our ground in confessing what we believe. We cannot beat around the bush trying to justify our wrong answers, or trying to sugarcoat sin in order to fit in. I had to make it clear to the teens that excuses are wrong answers. You are either a virgin or nor. You are either born again or not. Justifications are at times proof that you don’t know what you stand for.

Now to you, God warns againsr being lukewarm. Pick a side and be loyal to it. lukewarm people will be spewed! Revelation 3:15-16 says ”I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot.  I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarmneither hot nor cold. I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

Many times we dont have time to read and meditate on Gods word. That’s why when questions arise, we fumble around with wrong answers. We sound unsure and undecided. Not funny at all because we do this at the expense of our relationship with God. We are ashamed of the gospel. we will be labelled ”boring”

Are you persuaded that God is real? Do you believe that He is God over all? Are you born again? Are you striving daily to be closer to Him? No matter what your answer is, I pray that you honestly meditate on these questions. No excuses, no diversions.. give your answer and walk in the direction you have picked with loyalty.
