Which Fish are you?

The Bible has taught me so much about fish, fishing and fishermen. Fish is mentioned severally in the Bible, from the fifth day of creation, to the miraculous catching of fish in the New Testament. My favourite fish story is definitely the one that spit Jonah to Nineveh. Today rather, we are not talking about the fishermen or the fish we eat. We focus on you and I as the fish; we are likened to the fish in the parable of the net.

‘Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ Matthew 13:47-50

The question is, which type of fish are you? This parable places us exactly where we are, in the sea of this world. A time is coming when we shall all be on the shore, gathered together in judgment. Fish from different parts of the sea, fish of different colour and sizes: Then sorting will begin; the good will be separated from the bad. As a fish, you have a choice to make while you are still in the sea, you are in control of which side you will be when you find yourself at the shore. Just like the fish, we do not know when the net will be cast our side, no one knows the day or the hour. So the time to make that decision is now. We should not be worried about the net, we should not be worried about the shore, we should be concerned about whether we shall be in the basket or thrown away.

If you have accepted the message of Christ, then keep on being God’s faithful follower. Heaven is real. “Then the King will say to those on his right, `Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.’ Matthew 25:34

Do you still doubt? Are you still thinking you have all the time? Hell is real. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 13:50) God is calling you today to make a decision. Where will you spend eternity? This is a reminder that God loves you and He sent His son to die on the cross for you, He desires that at the shore you are not thrown into the furnace of fire. Do not harden your heart; no one is assured of tomorrow. The time is now.

Tell someone today that time is running out. Jesus already paid the price for us and all we need to do is to surrender. “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” (Romans 10:9)
