Ever been desperate, alone, stressed and tired? Most of us have, we have had experiences that caused us pain and anxiety. Now think of such a scenario where you are looking for a way out, living between a rock and a hard place, then one out of the many friends you have sorts you out. They come to your rescue and give you more than what you asked for. The expected results are, once you are out the pit, you thank this friend who stood by you, that you never ever forget what they did. But our nature as human beings is sometimes unexplainable, we tend to only appreciate people’s help when we are still in the pit, once we are rescued, we forget and move on. In fact, some won’t have time to rescue those around them who fall in the same pit. We tend to forsake those who loved us when we had nothing, when we were actually nothing.
Many of us in our walk of faith, we believe and know that God is our ever present help in times of need; we believe He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. However, we only believe in who God is and what He can do when we are in trouble. Once God makes a way, we get comfortable and forsake Him. A perfect case of convenience; we only serve and seek God when it is convenient for us, or when we are in a mess and need help. I call it playing with God’s grace and mercies, treating Him like a magician who turns water into wine for us to enjoy, and then continue with our lives.
Reminds me of the story of King Asa in the book of 2 Chronicles, he started so well, causing spiritual revival and transformation, he saw God’s blessings. But later on his fire died out, he forsook the Lord and started doing his own thing. Prophet Azaraih then tells him in chapter 15:2, ‘The Lord is with you when you are loyal to him. If you seek him, he will respond to you, but if you reject him, he will reject you’ This verse is straight and clear, rejecting the Lord has consequences, it causes Him to reject you as well, to me, being rejected by God is the worst that can happen to any human being.
Today, remember the times that God is all you had, when nothing else made sense apart from God. Remember when you God saved, the things you used to do, the dedication, the sacrifice, the loyalty. Is it still the same? God loved us when we had nothing, He loved us when we were filthy and stained in sin, He is there for us when we have nobody else, He forgives us and blesses us when we don’t deserve it. Why don’t we make it our ambition like Joseph, to honour Him, whether we are in a prison, in a pit or even in the palace? Now that God has blessed you, continue seeking Him the way you did when He was all you had, the truth is, even now, He is the only Constant you have.
