Picture this; you have planned to do something very important with a group of friends, and on the D-day, they don’t show up. Instead they stay home and sleep. You plan for a second time, and still they do not show up. Well you don’t give up, you plan again for the same thing! For the third time, they stand you up and choose to sleep instead.
What would you do as a friend? Would you give these friends one chance after another as they keep blowing it? I would give up after the second planning and probably block those ‘friends’ I would not waste my time planning anything with people who choose sleep over me: More than once.
But we have a friend who does not give up, even when we let Him down. His name is JESUS: Matthew 26:38-45 Jesus demonstrates that He is a perfect friend. He says to his disciples, “Stay here and keep watch with me.” But he returned and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting?
Jesus is a friend to you and I, and He sticks closer than a brother. He never gives up on us even when we are unfaithful. Today you may be sleeping on your God given mandate, I am here to remind you that God has not given up on you. You can arise now and go back to Him. He has not blocked and unfriended you because of your past mistakes. We are assured of eternal friendship if we stick with Him. What a friend!
