My son is suddenly crazy about oranges, every time he spots one, I expect screaming and wailing as he tries to reach out for it. Not a bad thing, but… I have to peel it first! He is not yet at the age of appreciating processes. So he cries and screams until I’m done preparing the orange for him. Yesterday I let him eat an unpeeled one and yes the bitter peels were unbearable for him. I looked at him and said ‘You see! you need to wait for me to make it good for you!’ Look it away and he still cried, wait…did he expect that the second bite of peels would be sweet? Because I love him so much, I don’t mind him crying for a few minutes as I prepare the fruit for him: In a little while, he beams with joy as I hand over the well prepared orange in his fruit pacifier.
Every time this happens I tell myself, ‘Isn’t this how we behave when we are praying for specific things in our lives? We sometimes go before God with urgency on things we need to wait for. He is busy preparing the orange to make it good for us, but we rush, wailing and crying. We even find ourselves with mouthfuls of bitter peels because we couldn’t just wait. I can almost imagine Him saying ‘If only you could wait a few more months/years/days, your fruit will be perfectly ready and good for you’ But we are busy pulling His robe in tears demanding for it ‘NOW!’
It feels good when God answers immediately with a ‘YES’ most of us long for this all the time. That as soon as we present a request to God, it happens in the following second. But it does not always go that way, for me, ‘Wait’ and ‘No’ have been so clear in this season of my life. There are things I’m desperately waiting for, and there are some that God said ‘No’. Through it all, I am learning to rejoice at all times, knowing that God’s time is the best and He knows what He is doing. He doesn’t say No because He hates me. He says No because He loves me so much.
Has God told you to wait? Is it discouraging you? Maybe those around you got a quick yes, yet you are there waiting not knowing when your fruit will be ready. This is for you: God loves you, and He has not left you alone to wait, He actually promises strength for them that wait. “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31) So keep waiting, at the right time you will beam with joy because God’s timing is perfect. Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time.”
Enjoy the beauty of waiting… It’s not easy, it hurts sometimes, but God does not mind you crying for a short while as He prepares whats good for you. It is way better than the bitterness and pain of shortcuts and granting you things you are not ready for. You are in good company, Abraham and Sarah waited, Joseph waited, Job waited (In so much pain) Rawder is waiting. Find a praise song to sing while you wait. God loves you.
