The Sin in the Camp

In Joshua 6,7 & 9: The Bible records Achan’s sin. As Israel was going into battle, God warned against picking any of the devoted things ‘But the Israelites were unfaithful in regard to the devoted things; Achan son of Karmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of them. So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel.’

It amazes me how one man caused Israel to lose many men in the battle. When Joshua inquires from the Lord why they lost the battle, God says it is because there was sin in the camp. Well, God is merciful and when we confess our sin our sis He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Maybe the camp looks good on the outside and the majority of the people are daily confessing. What destroys the camp is the unconfessed prevalent sin that is done in ‘secret’ We are also living in times when we see sin in church but chose to look the other way, not ready to point out what is wrong.

Individual hidden sin deeply affects the church, the society and the family. we are all members of one body, 1 Cor. 12:27. When one member of the body has problems, the entire body has problems.  Sin is like cancer in the body, starts with a single inconspicuous cell but grows to destroy the entire body. A little sin left unchecked doesn’t just disappear, it grows teeth arms and legs then devours. As Paul puts it “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.'” There is a ripple effect, your sin is not just affecting you, but all the people around you.

That one little sin that you are keeping private is destroying the church, the whole camp is suffering because we are becoming very good at avoiding convictions. When we are corrected we feel judged, we are also afraid to point out sin in our midst because we are afraid of being un-liked and unfollowed. Something is wrong! We cannot have so many people going to church and quoting scripture yet our society is rotten. Where is the salt? where is the light? why is it hidden? Something is missing! We need to arise and stop allowing sin to consume our camps.

May God help us to come out in repentance, that we shall seize from living in sin. That we shall point out the sin in our midst and apply the word of God in our camp. May we be freed from the sin in the camp that is destroying our nation. May we not remain silent but lovingly expose the unfruitful works of darkness.
