My son’s life revolves around very few people, so chances are if you are not among the few, if you try pick him he will either cry or resist. So last week one of the “strangers” tried picking him and surprisingly he complied. I was a bit startled because, wait, the person was a stranger to me too. How? What was going on? Has he finally accepted that the world has more friendly human beings than he thought? I gave them a few minutes and he quickly remembered mommy! (Honestly sometimes it feels special when all of you are resisted. Oh until I want to go somewhere without him and I need you! )
So I had to find out why this particular stranger was accepted. Ofcourse she went on and on about how children love her, and no baby has ever said no to her. But I discovered something, she had a shiny necklace, and my son couldn’t get his eyes off it. Oh yes, it had nothing to do with her smile or baby friendly nature, my son was only interested in her necklace and when he discovered he can’t pull it off, he quickly noticed that he is in the arms of a stranger. Where is mommy?? I want mommy, I know mommy, she doesn’t need a necklace, I am safer with her because I know her and we have a relationship. Well, my son cannot talk so I read his mind on your behalf. Hahaha
Why do you run to God? Forget about the reasons you give people to look good. Why do you really run to God? Are you sure it’s not the shiny necklace? Are you sure it’s not just because of something you want him to do urgently? Then when He says ‘no’ you have nothing else to say to Him, when He says ‘wait’ he automatically becomes a stranger and you quickly run back to alcohol, sex, unhealthy relationships, food, movies and scrolling through social media, where you have invested your time and feel safe and accepted?
Does God need to dangle a shiny necklace to get your attention? Do you worship Him because of who He is or just because of what you have heard He can do?
Whatever your shiny necklace represents: It could be a child, a spouse, a job, finances, healing, food, a house, a car. You name it! You know it! IT IS AN IDOL! It is what you are worshiping not God. Immediately you get it, God becomes irrelevant.
Consider the following scriptures:
“Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them.” Jonah 2:8
“Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.” 1 John 5:21
“Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.” 1 Corinthians 10:14
Today, think about it. Why do you run to God? Why are you seeking Him now?
May the Lord help us to cultivate a relationship with Him. To seek Him for who He is. Necklace or not, may we be found at His feet.

I like this. Necklace or not, may I be found at my Father’s feet.
ASANTE.
Amen. May I always run to him not because of the shinny necklace
Amen, help me dear Lord.
Thank you Rawder.
