When the Bible tells us that God hates something, it is serious. This is because He is so merciful and loving, so anything He hates must be damaging to us and to His kingdom. Now, when you love someone and you know of something they hate, you always do your best not to do it. I personally work so had to stop the habits that irritate my husband, because I love Him.
‘There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.’ (Proverbs 6:16-19)
God is clear in our relationship with Him, about things that He detests. Common sense states that we should be doing our best to keep off this list of things He does not like. One because the seven are sinful, and the wages of sin is death, and two because we love Him and value our relationship with Him. If you were to state to a loved one a list of things you do not like and they keep doing them, you would question your relationship.
In our case with God, we cannot question His love and commitment to us. We cannot question His power and mercy: The only thing we can question is our commitment and faithfulness to Him. We have all sinned and done the things He hates, but are we comfortable in sin? are we feeling nothing about daily living in sin, no urge to repent, no intention to walk away? Does it bother you that you are doing something that God hates?
Today, I pray for you and I, that we be deliberate and intentional about pleasing God and walking in His ways. That we shall resist the devil and keep off from the seven things that God distastes; Even when we fall, we shall rise again and depend on Him for restoration. May God help us all, to have repentant hearts.
