On one side, Mary and Joseph had been bombarded with information that thwarted their plans. This must have been confusing, but on the other side, they were willing to be used by God for a greater purpose. Job also went through a lot, pain and loss attacked him unexpectedly, but on the other side he chose to keep his faith.
I have experienced real fear this year; fear filled with paranoia and inner pressure. It has been a tough year for most people. We can go on and on listing the tragedies of the year and unexpected losses. But on the other side, I have learnt faith; I have learnt to trust in God fully. I have learnt how fragile life is. I have learnt to focus on what really matters in this life and glorify God with all I have and all I am.
Today as you look back at the year 2020, remember there is more than one side. Despite the global pandemic, we have many lessons to carry us through 2021. How I pray that we shall focus on the side that makes us stronger. How I pray that our inner eyes will be opened to see God calming the storm; His healing, protection, sustenance, providence, and presence. God’s faithfulness has been conspicuous this year. How I pray that we never let go of the truth that God’s faithfulness is everlasting.
The other side of 2020 reveals to us that God is all that matters. Everything else is vanity. “Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.” Colossians 3:11
