The Miracle Fruit

Ever heard about the miracle fruit? Some call it the miracle berry or the sweet berry. It comes from a unique plant ‘Synsepalum dulcificum’. When this berry is eaten it causes sour foods to taste sweet. That is why it is called a miracle fruit; it binds the tongue’s taste buds and makes everything else sweet. Anyone from West Africa reading this? How can I get this fruit? I need to eat this before eating all the healthy foods that I dislike.

For a Christian we have been given such a fruit, something that can change the taste and feel of everything else around us: Praise. We praise God for what He has done and who He is. When we praise Him, we also benefit because it causes us to change perspective of the harsh seasons we might be going through. Praise helps us to declare who God is and find confidence in His unchanging nature. Just like a miracle berry, praise alters our mindsets. When we make a declaration of praise, it takes sorrow and pain away, it makes everything else fall into place. It makes us focus on how big our God is instead of how big our problems are.

Today, don’t step out without the miracle berry. Make everything else taste sweet by praising the one who holds the whole world in His hands:

“Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet; praise him with the harp and lyre, Praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, Praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”

(Psalm 150)
