Elisha’s servant in 2nd Kings 6 goes outside one morning and looking up, he sees a horde of soldiers with horses and chariots. He gets scared and runs back with the devastating news, he knew that they were going to die, because nothing else could be done. On hearing this, Elisha remained cool, calm and collected saying, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (6:16). He then makes a prayer, and his servant’s eyes are opened to see the situation in another perspective: The spiritual perspective.
Elisha, surrounded by chariots of fire, walks towards the soldiers and greets them, he then asks God to strike them blind and lead them elsewhere, and once they are surrounded by the Israel army, their sight is restored. He then directed the Israelite king to feed them on their way. The Bible records that ‘For a while the Arameans did not bother Israel.’
I know you have not woken up to an army of soldiers with horses and chariots. Maybe you have woken up to lack, sickness, loss, chaos in your marriage, family misunderstandings, chaos in your business or financial strains. We all know what it means to suddenly be confronted with storms of life beyond our control. We can all relate to Elisha’s servant; being filled with worry, panic and anxiety, thinking that we have come to the end of the rope.
All we need is for our spiritual eyes to be opened, so that we see God’s way out. He says in every trial and test He has a way out. ‘No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[b] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.’ (1 Corinthians 10:13) When our spiritual eyes are opened, we see the life option, we see the chariot of fire surrounding us; we gain confidence to walk through the valley of the shadow of death. God not only knows how to solve our problems, He has unlimited power to deal with the biggest problems we can ever face.
Whatever you are going through today, be reminded that God surveyed your ability and He knows you can handle it, with Him. He desires that we choose the life option, the option that we can only see with our spiritual eyes. That problem exists because there is a way out; there is a solution to it. I pray that the Lord will open our spiritual eyes that we will not be blinded by the army of horses set to attack us, but we shall be aware of the chariot of fire surrounding us. That we will see the life option.
