The Immunity Idol

I have been watching survivor: A show involving contestants who are stranded in an island, they daily face tasks, form alliances and face elimination battles to win a grand prize. This show has made me have a roller coaster of emotions especially because of the twists and turns that happen during the tribal council. This is where one survivor is eliminated from the game. One of the most valued treasures in the show is an immunity idol. It is an object hidden in the island for the survivors to find, and whoever is in possession of it can use it during the elimination time to save themselves from being eliminated. It is every survivor’s dream. The trick is finding it and hiding it so that no one steals it from you.

I have observed contestants in pocession of this object. The confidence levels are very high. No matter how they do in challenges, no matter the alliances against them, no matter how hungry and lonely they get in the island, they have an assurance of immunity if they use the idol well. I have seen them hide the object in unimaginable places, making sure the entire tribe is fooled, waiting for an opportune moment to use it and stay alive in the game. They do all it takes because the grand price is worth fighting for.

Do you know that we have been given an ‘immunity idol’ by God? We have a chance to live forever! Isn’t that amazing? Knowing that no matter the struggles we go through here on earth, no matter the seasons, the trials and the pain, we have a chance to live forever in a place where death and pain does not exist. The beauty is that we don’t have to go through any task to get it, we don’t have to get bruises looking for it. It is freely given. Jesus went through death for us to receive it. We have been given a free pass to eternity through Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross.

When we accept Jesus as Lord and savior, we have the confidence like Paul that to live is Christ and to die is gain. We can no longer be condemned by the evil one because at the cross sin is defeated. For we who have surrender our lives to Jesus, our confidence levels should rise, we will never be out of the ‘game’ even when we face the accuser, Jesus’s blood speaks on our behalf. The judge is on our side and He already paid the price for our sins. For you who has not made this decision, you are missing out on the grand price, you are missing out on a free life. You are already loved, please take the step and accept the gift of salvation. Jesus loved us while we were still sinners and opted to die for us so that we love forever. It is real. It is true. That is our confidence.

‘that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ (John 3:15-16)
