The Great Invitation

I remember coming up with the guest list for my wedding. It was a carefully thought about process; cards were made and invites sent to specific people. Family and the people my husband and I considered friends. Many responded by attending our wedding, we were so pleased. Others sent apologies, while others havent responded to date: The later hurt us so bad.

No one invites people they don’t like for a great feast. We all invite friends; people we love. We invite them according to the available space and amount of food. So if an invite is sent to you, it is courteous to at least open it and respond.

We are not here to discuss my wedding invites though. We are here for the greatest invite of all time: God has invited us to come to Him so many times through His word. So first things first, we need to open the letter: Our Bibles. We need to read God’s word to know who is invited and what the invite is all about. He speaks through His word, and it is difficult to hear Him if our bibles are closed. He invites the sick, the weary, the heavy laden, the tired, the confused, those who lack wisdom, the foolish, the weak; in fact the invite is to everyone who believes.

You are in the guest list. God has invited you because He values you and considers you worthy of the space and banquet. The choice is in your hands; the time to respond is now. The invite has an expiry date and no one knows the time nor the hour. As long as you can read this, you are invited by the creator of the heavens and the earth. What an honour!

He says “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” (Revelation 3:20) This is an invite to you and I to open the door. There is room for you, there is a banquet for you. Open the letter, open the door, allow Jesus to come in and set you free. Accept the invite and live forever.
