Surrender Your Isaac

Abraham is my guy. Every time I read Genesis 22, I marvel at Abraham’s faith and His willingness to sacrifice. In verse 2, God directs Abraham “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”and in verse 3, Abraham obeys, ‘Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac.’

I would need a few more verses between two and three asking God some questions, seeking clarity in prayer and fasting, and finding other areas to serve God in order to ignore this directive. I would need a few years, to ‘Accept’ and even after accepting, i would not wake up early in the morning, I would look for the longest route to Moriah. I would suggest to God other people and things that I could sacrifice. Not my Isaac.

This man Abraham, is listed in the wall of faith in Hebrews 11:8. He was a man of faith. ACTIVE faith. Lets go back to Genesis, I keep thinking of what God would tell me so sacrifice, to give to Him fully, not knowing why, not knowing if it will come back, but to surrender to Him just because He is God. Who is my Isaac? What is my Isaac? Is it my family? Is it my money? Is it my academic papers? Is it my connections? Is it my talents and gifts? Is it my social media spaces?

Dear friend, today lets pray for the grace to surrender that Isaac to God. It belongs to God anyway. He is God. He knows why. Ask yourself. ‘Who is my Isaac?’ and surrender him/it to God. It is hard at times, especially when we attach so much value to things, so much value that it is greater than God’s value in our lives. In Genesis, Abraham obeys, He is willing to surrender Isaac and things turn out for His good, What if he said no?

May the Lord help us identify and surrender to Him every form of Isaac in our lives. No matter how much we love and value it. It is nothing without Christ.

Amen.
