I have been learning how to apply make up on my face, I recently posted a video of my daughter and I doing each other make up, it was a disaster, but we are still learning. In most tutorials, the first stage is preparing your face. This includes cleaning your face; believe it or not, there are over fourteen steps of face preparation, this is done before you start applying makeup. It is best to apply makeup on a fresh clean skin. The dangers of applying makeup on dirty skin include, clogging up pores, irritation of the skin, contracting skin infections and accelerating wrinkles. In short, covering dirty skin in makeup is foolish, because one looks good on the outside, yet the inside is being destroyed. Again, before going to bed, the makeup has to be washed off, if not, you end up not only ruining your skin but also your bed sheets and clothes.
In the same way, it benefits nothing to look good on the outside yet you are crushing on the inside. It is very dangerous for s Christian to be seen doing so well outwardly yet the inside is empty. It is actually foolish, because our God sees our hearts, our intentions and our motives. A while back, I would have talked about being seen in church daily, but since we are living in different times, let’s keep our examples virtual. It is now easier to fool everyone about being spiritual and mature in Christ, all you need is post scripture daily and go live once in a while ‘preaching’ the word of God. We have become a people who crave for man’s praises more than having a relationship with God. Taking care of the outside without cleaning the inside first is dangerous.
Jesus expresses this in Matthew 23:27-28 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.” This warning cuts deep, especially when it is aimed at teachers and leaders. No man can tell who is a true worshiper or not, only God can see that, God sees beyond the makeup, He sees beyond the masks, He is aware of the motives behind the religious acts. So consider pleasing Him first, consider going after His affirmation and not the praises of men.
It is better to have no makeup on and get zero compliments from men, yet your face is clean and fresh, well taken care of. Than having a ruined face covered in makeup. It is better to be ugly to the world and beautiful to God than the opposite. At the end of the day, if you also decide to sleep in makeup, if you decide to be a hypocrite day and night, it will not only hurt you but also those around you. No one wants to be a round fake people. Taking care of the inside is key: “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)
God is seeking for those who honour Him not only with the lips, but also with their hearts. Take off that mask and wash your face.
