Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, one of the things we have been advised to do is stay in the house. #StayHome has been trending on twitter for some hours now. The experts say that staying at home reduces the risk of contracting and spreading the virus. To some, staying at home is effortless but to others it is next to impossible, it means halting their businesses and pausing their careers. A few also think that staying at home will prevent them from knowing what is happening on the ground. The truth of the matter is that it is more dangerous to be outside and everyone must make an intentional choice to stay indoors.

In Joshua 2,  Rahab hides the two spies sent by Joshua into the city of Jericho. She actually lied to the authorities about their whereabouts to keep them safe. The two spies promised to spare Rahab and her family from death, they gave her some secrets and rules on how to be safe, one o them was in verse 19, ‘ If any of them go outside your house into the street, their blood will be on their own heads; we will not be responsible. As for those who are in the house with you, their blood will be on our head if a hand is laid on them.’ The secret was in staying in the house. The only place they would find safety.

The prodigal son thought he could handle life on his own and walked out of the father’s house, only to realize how dangerous it was out there. He even opted to be a servant in his father’s house that to stay outside. He went back and was received with loving arms. All this while, the secret was to stay in the house.  There is security in the father’s house.

In our case as Christians, ‘Staying in the house’ is ‘staying in the faith’. A day ago we talked about how storms make us question God’s existence. Right now the storms seem to be rising, the panic is quickly escalating and uncertainty is hitting us hard. There is a temptation to walk away in protest, asking ‘where is God in this?’ thinking that God has been defeated. There is a temptation to mock God and renounce the faith. But this is walking right into the fire. It is very dangerous to be outside right now. The secret is to stay in the house of the Lord, it is safe. Being rooted in the faith means we are shielded by the blood of Jesus. If you have never been in the house, this is the time to seek for safety and get into the house.

Are you in the house? Are you proclaiming Jesus as your Lord and savior? Are you trusting and leaning on the everlasting love? Times are bad, you are worried for your family, you have no idea what will happen to your business, you will lose a lot of money, no matter what struggle you are facing, it is dangerous to go outside the faith. It is dangerous not to be saved right now. Nothing else matters but your eternal safety. Please, get in the house and if you are there, please stay in the house.
