Stay ‘Half Full’

You have probably heard of the half full half empty glass. The best illustration there is for determining one’s world view. Thomas Cathcart puts I this way: “The optimist says, “The glass is half full.” The pessimist says, “The glass is half empty.” The rationalist says, “This glass is twice as big as it needs to be.” I love his outlook. Today, lets talk about you. What do you see first? The half full, half empty or you have other views, like the realist who only sees a glass of water?

I once spent a whole day in bed, making few trips to the kitchen for food and to the washroom to refresh. It was a lonely sad day because I had been disappointed by someone I had highly esteemed and trusted. Some very big plans had been cancelled and I just felt deflated. I decided to mop around my house and watch sad movies. I had even switched off my phone. The glass was not even empty, to me, there was no glass at all. I was just done!

Then my daughter came from school and alerted me that one of her teachers was looking for me. So I switched on my phone and not only got the message from school but also three other messages from friends; one of them stood out, it made me tear up. She had been fired, her son was sick and she was doubting God’s power. She ended by ‘I wish I was you’ This changed everything for me. I realized that I had overlooked my half full glass. I had allowed one hitch to block all the blessings I had in my life.

Maybe today you are losing hope, you have even forgotten that there is a glass in the first place. I am here to remind you that there is a glass and there is something in your glass. May the words of Proverbs 23:18-19 encourage you today: ‘Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always continue in the fear of the LORD. For surely there is a future , and your hope will not be cut off.’ Remember that those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Do not lose hope, do not despair. All is not lost. Focus on how big and powerful God is, and watch your troubles and problems minimize. Stay hopeful today, stay ‘Half Full’ even when it seems dark and empty, Jehovah is in control and He has the final say over your life. No matter what you are going through, there is hope for restoration. You are blessed!
