Ever felt like you have done all you can, prayed all you can and thing are not getting any better? Feeling that you are hanging at the end of a rope and there’s no hint that things might change? I have seen a couple of such cases of late, people stuck at crossroads with no strength to fight anymore. Well life happens to everyone, and each of us finds themselves in such a position, if you have never been there, then brace up, a season is coming. Some are more severe than others but it happens to everyone. I like telling people to pray about such situations, but often I have been told ‘I can’t even pray’ I can relate, there are times in my life when I couldn’t even pray: When standing is not as easy as it seems.
Many times we know that the answer is prayer, but we cannot pray. We know that we need to hold on, but we do not have strength to. We know the only option is to be strong, but we do not know how. This is because we depend on our wisdom and strength. Our physical weapons are temporary, they fade away. Our physical strength cannot be depended on. The Bible says even the youth grow weak and weary. It’s time to realize that ‘for though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:’ Flesh fails us; we need to stand up to the world, the flesh and the devil. That is why Paul says that after we have done everything to stand, then we must stand firm therefore clothed in the armor if God. So when we cannot stand anymore, we should stand.
We are in a spiritual battle, we cannot fight carnally. This means that we should not sit and feel sorry for ourselves, worry will not help us. We should not move from door to door seeking worldly help. Our help comes from the Lord, the maker of the heavens and the earth. It is time to seek God’s truth, God’s counsel, God’s direction and His wisdom. He is the way the truth and the life, and we know He does not withhold anything good from those who trust Him. Standing the spiritual way is hard, it is uncomfortable and painful. But God has called us to stand. Let us obey, let us be still and know that He is God. In this season, if you cannot stand anymore, then stand firm clothed fully in the armor of God.
‘Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.’ Ephesians 6:14-17
