If you go to the lab for a sin test, anytime of the day, any day of the week, you will be found sin-positive. There is no point or time that we can boast that we are sinless and as Holy as God is. Every time you start feeling sinless and holier than everyone around you, it’s the beginning of a fall that comes after pride. Our human nature sometimes gets judgmental, we categorize people according to how sinful they are, we even point fingers at ‘those sinners’ and avoid any association with them. As much as we are the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus, it does not mean that we are sinless; the word of God still says that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
Repentance and confession should be part of our daily prayers, even if we have come from a forty day fast. ‘If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.’ You have sinned. If you do not acknowledge that fact, then you will not be able to experience the mercies of God that are new every morning.
James 4:17 says “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” Everyone is a sinner, and you are part of ‘everyone’ sin hurts, it brings pain and brokenness. We find ourselves doing what we shouldn’t do and not doing what we should do. We are all guilty for the wrong things we have done and also for the right things we have failed to do.
This is not to condemn you; it is to awaken us not to be complacent with sin. Just because you go to church and pay your tithes and offerings does not make you Holy. God is calling us to total repentance, as we confess, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God is ready to make us as white as snow, but we must be intentional and deliberate about walking away from sin, being a totally new creation and confessing that the past is gone and the new has come.
The biggest challenge we have right now is being okay with lukewarmness. We are okay with mixing up the gospel and sin, as long as we are playing the cards right and ‘people’ don’t know our true colours. We raise hands in church in worship but are still okay with fornication; we praise the Lord with our lips and still steal from our companies. It has become a norm; we have started feeling sinless and too Holy to be ‘judged’. May God help us all: Today be reminded that you are sin positive, and righteousness does not come with being religious. Admit that you are a sinner and only God can cleanse you. Religion will not save us, only God will.
