One of the things my teachers used to tell us all the time was ‘be at the right place at the right time doing the right thing’ Every punishment resulted from a violation of this, someone being at the wrong place, doing the wrong thing, or doing things at the wrong time. It varied from time to time and at times it was a mixture of the violations; being at the wrong place doing the wrong thing. So before any action, I had to ask myself several questions to avoid trouble: I was not always out of trouble but still came out with a great lesson from those rules. Lessons that play a big role for me as a Christian in today’s world.
For every believer the ‘right place’ matters a lot. For us, the best place for us to be is in the will of God. Daily working on our walk of faith to know exactly what God wants us to do. The physical place may not matter spiritually, because God often positions us in uncomfortable situations to fulfill His purpose. Look at Joseph for example, (Genesis 37-50) he was in a pit, then sold as a slave, then in prison. All these are not places one would fancy, but they all worked out for his good to fulfill the purpose God had for him. You may not like the place you are in right now, but if you are in the will of God, then it is the right place for this season, ask God what He wants you to do at such a time as this. Be at the right place, in God’s will.
Timing is another important aspect in a Christian’s life. First we need to understand that times and seasons belong to God (Daniel 2:21) we should learn to trust in God’s timing. Believing that He is never late and His timing is perfect. Many times when things don’t happen when we want them to happen, God is either rescuing us from the trouble ‘wrong timing’ may cause, or He wants us to wait a little longer for a bigger blessing. God makes everything beautiful in its time (Ecclesiastes 3:11) He is calling on us to wait patiently for Him, because at the right time, He shall fulfill the promises He has made to us. The right time for a believer is God’s timing.
When a Christian decides to do the ‘right thing’ it basically means obeying God’s decrees and commands. It means being alert to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. It means every action is inspired and directed by God’s word. That the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts are acceptable before God’ Many times we are tempted to do the right thing once a week, once a year, or once a day to cover up our sins, but it does not work that way. We need to get to a place where Job was, being called upright and blameless. I am always encouraged by Noah too, when God told Him to build an ark with specific instructions step by step, it is recorded that Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded Him. Now that is doing the right thing: What God wants you to do.
Since we are not alone, God has given us a helper; the Holy Spirit, it is possible to do the right thing at the right time and in the right place. That is the only way to avoid trouble and stay fully committed to our faith.
