Repeat Mode

Movies are slowly becoming my major distraction, but in some way I always find a way of deriving lessons from them, and forcing Biblical meanings from them. Last night I watched one titled ‘love on repeat’ where a lady was having the same day over and over again. Imagine waking up and re-living the previous day, going through the same experiences and knowing exactly what is going to happen. The lady got frustrated and sad, wondering what was happening to her. So she shared with a friend who did not believe but said ‘maybe the universe is giving you another chance to get things right’. That is all she needed to start taking the challenge positively.

Let’s say you had the same chance, to relive yesterday. Well, I already know things I would do different and things I would not even dare do. I know phone calls I would not make and places I would not go. With the knowledge I have and lessons I have from yesterday, I would not repeat the same mistakes.

Now, back to reality, you and I probably have never had such an experience, all our days are different. This is in terms of activities and experiences but they also have the same similarities. All days have 24 hours, each hour has 60 minutes and each minute has 60 seconds. We can as well say we have another day just like yesterday to do things right and better. In reality, we also do not know exactly how things will turn out, we can only plan and hope but we cannot predict every step of the day. That is why we have to trust He who knows every little detail of what is happening in our lives: God.

Psalm 118:24 says ‘This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it’. This is a declaration most of us make daily. I don’t know about you, sometimes I say that and move on to the rest of the day without rejoicing without being glad. Sometimes I treat every day as a normal day, thinking that there shall always be a tomorrow to do the right thing. Sometimes I wish I could re-live yesterday so as to make better decisions, forgetting that I can still do that today, I can use the lessons to have a batter today. Today is a gift, it is present and that is what we should concentrate on. The time to make it right is now. The time to love is now. The time to reach out with the Gospel is now. It is sad to live each day making the same mistakes and never learning from them.

Each day is another chance given to us by God. We don’t have to re-live yesterday to do things right.  You have a chance to correct mistakes; you have a chance to make better choices. He desires we live for Him daily, correcting yesterday’s mistakes and looking forward to a better tomorrow. Everything that God makes is God, so today is a good day. Yesterday is gone; we can only learn from it, regret never helps. God has given you a chance, 24 hours to live for Him, what are you going to do differently today?

By the way in one of the last scenes, the lady says ‘I have been so focused on tomorrow, I lost focus of today’
