Now that church meetings are held online all over the world, it’s very easy for one to be swindled into false doctrines and cults. Every time I go online, a friend is inviting me for a watch party, another is live, another is reminding me of their church service and some just appear on my timeline because the sermons have been sponsored. As much as it is now easy to access sermons from all over for personal growth, it is also time to be more vigilant on what we allow in our hearts. If you do not personally study the word of God, you will follow anyone’ the truth and the almost truth. Here is why. ..
I was once told that most bank attendants don’t study fake money, instead they study the real ones so well that they can identify anything fake at a glance. They also don’t study while already in the job, they have to study before; they have to be trained before. If they were allowed to study while in the job, then the possibility of overlooking the ‘almost real’ money would be very high. Christians should do the same especially now, study the Bible, know the truth for yourself. This will help you identify anything fake just at a glance. If we do not know what the Bible says, and rely on everyone else’s reading and interpretation, it is very easy to be misled. The Holy Spirit is available to all of us, just as God speaks through preachers, He can speak to you directly through His word. We all have equal access.
This season, do not be misled. Test the spirits as the word of God says: ‘Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out.’ (1 John 4:1) Pray and ask God to lead you to the right content daily, God knows the intentions of everyone online, He sees what we cannot see, and if we rely on His direction then we will escape every snare set before us by satan. We should also be ready to go through the quoted scriptures thoroughly like the Bereans, see what the pastor is saying is true. If you have the Bible, you have the truth. ‘Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.’ (Acts 17:11)
The more time we spend studying the truth, the better we will be in testing the spirits and evading the fake. But if we jump online ready to listen and learn from anyone who is live, without spending time with the truth, then we can be easily fall into the wrong doctines. May the Lord help us all in this season, to be found in the truth: Interacting with His truth, walking in the truth, speaking the truth and sharing the truth.
