In a Pre-marital Christian counseling sessions, each couple was asked to come up with a list of things that their partner can do to make them call of their marriage. Most of them sighted infidelity, domestic violence, negligence, lack of interest, lack of sex, lack of commitment and even in law interferences. Most of them had something written but one young man had a blank paper, he explained that he is ready to get into his marriage for better and for worse and there’s nothing that can cause him to break it. He was in for, until death. This was such a bold step and a great challenge to the rest. When it comes to marriage, that is the mindset a couple should have. Of course in marriage there are many things that may come up and in some extremes call for separation, but as a couple prepares, it is good to be ready to be in till death.
It may not be practical for a human being to promise eternal loyalty, human beings lie, they change their minds. That is why the Bible tells us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding. In fact those who put their trust in man are termed as ‘cursed’. We are called upon to rely on God who never changes; He is the same yesterday today and forever.
When you get into a relationship with God, you are convinced that He is going to be loyal every step of the way. Romans 8:38-39 says ‘For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord’ We are assured that God is here to stay and His love is steadfast.
Today you might have drifted away from God and you are feeling hated and excommunicated. I would request you to write a list of reasons you feel God cannot forgive you, or God does not love you. Go ahead and write all the reasons you have in mind, things that you think might have taken away God’s love for you. Then erase them all and write ‘NOTHING’. There is nothing you have done or can do that can cause God to hate you. God’s love for you is unconditional. He is calling, He is waiting, He is ready to hold you in His arms again and give you peace.
Unlike relationships with men, with God, we cannot anticipate being neglected, being forgotten, being abused or violated. With God, we are assured of true eternal love and that He will always be present.
Trust in God; nothing can take away His love for you.
