There’s a lot of fasting talk going on because it is the beginning of the year. So many ministries are praying and fasting this January. If you belong to any, you will hear it in church, they will even give you a pamphlet with information, then the sermon on the Sunday before the days of fasting will be on prayer and fasting. That’s not all, your church is on social media, they will post on your face every morning, afternoon and evening. They will break down the prayer points for you and give you a schedule. You will even share the posts and tell people about the coming fast. But are you rally part of it. Or in your heart you are saying. ‘nope. no way. Not me.’
I used to see people talk about twenty one days of prayer and fasting. The first thing that came on my mind was ‘ They are brainwashed’ or ‘One day I will get there’ without even thinking through. I already knew its not my thing, I can still pray and eat at the same time and God still hears, So why deny myself food? Then I would look at the people in church who were loudest about fasting, and feel small. ‘ I am not as spiritual and annointed as them’ Then one day I decided as weak, as filthy, as sinful, as prayerless, as unfit, as unannointed as i was, I will give it a try. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I realized, IT IS POSSIBLE.
So here we are, church members, there are always those who appear more spiritual, the ones who are called, the ones who are sanctified, the ones who can pray for long. So anytime there’s a responsibility, its easy to assume you are not as strong or as annointed, and rush to the statement ‘Not me’ because there are certain people who will.
Today, lets silence that voice that is disqualifying you from prayer and fasting, that one telling you ‘no. not me’ the one telling you to ignore the communal prayer and fasting. Telling you to ignore the call. Telling you that you are not good enough. Hey, you are. There’s a reason God brought that information your way, there’s a reason you are part of that ministry. Maybe its not even fasting, maybe its missionary work, children’s ministry, maybe its visitation. Don’t ignore it. Luke 10:2 says, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” So, you are needed!
