In the current corona era, there are three types of people. Those who have stopped everything else in their lives, they are on panic mode, completely scared of the virus. They have watched all documentaries, filled their homes with sanitizers and a century’s supply of food, covered themselves with masks from head to toe and are now seated keeping up with the world statistics. They don’t pray at all, because they believe it is nothing spiritual, it is all scientific. The second type are the ones who have all the information they need, they do what they can in their careers and families while keeping safe, and spend time in prayer asking God to intervene. Then there are those who don’t care. This group believes that the virus will not affect them; they think it’s not real, it’s a lie. They go around with their businesses, not taking any preventive measures, not praying and not bothered. They believe they are somewhat special, and this pandemic will not affect them in any way.
I woke up thinking of the third group of people. I think they also existed during the time of Noah. There are people who did not care, in fact they thought it’s a big lie, there were no signs of rain and it had not rained for a long time. They probably may have heard of things God did in the past, but it did not bother them. They went to the ark construction site to ridicule Noah and his family because they actually looked insane. Maybe they thought if a miracle happens it would be a few drops, and the big ark was not necessary. If Noah existed in these current times, maybe we would be sharing jokes and memes about the crazy guy building a huge ark. Well in the end, it actually did flood: Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out. Only Noah and His family were saved. (Genesis 7)
In Kenya, only three cases have been confirmed as I write this. But it has already affected our lives. Schools have been shut down; think about the school workers, the people who supply services to the schools. They may not have a source of income for some time. Some food that was stored in schools might go bad because of the crisis. So many loses. Not forgetting how this will affect students emotionally. They cannot even play at home. If you look closely, so many areas of our lives have already been affected. Many Christian gatherings have been called off. Yes, the church has been affected. We have heard of price hikes: The scarcity of products and services. We are all affected in one way or the other.
So don’t act unbothered. This corona virus is your business. It is not time for spiritual people to pray. It is time for everyone to pray. Let’s all call upon the name of the Lord. Let’s all ask for His mercy. On behalf of the nations, on behalf of people who do not even know Him. It is not time for some people to repent, let us all repent and come back to God and ask for His healing. It is our business; it is time to unite in prayer, let us humble ourselves and forsake every wicked way. Let us go back to our father and ask for divine intervention. He is able to do all that is impossible with man. It is not time to worry, it is time to pray. It is your business.
‘if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.’ 2nd chronicles 7:14
