Just a Second

One day equals 24 hours, one hour equals sixty minutes, one minute equals sixty seconds. Without a second, the minute is incomplete. So much can happen/change in a second.

I once wasted a whole week by despising a second. This is what I mean; many times I have convinced myself that a 30 second tiktok video is too small to interfere with the day’s schedule then ended up glued on tiktok for hours. Other times I have risked rewarding myself with one more hour of sleep, only for it to spill over to four hours. I call it ”trying to play games with time,” from experience, time always wins. No matter how many times you halt your schedule, even with valid reasons, time waits for no man: It keeps moving.

Spiritually I have fallen for two lies: One of them is, ”its just an hour“and the second one is “theres always time“ in the first one, after wasting time that was supposed to be spent reading Gods word or listening to a sermon, I have convinced myself that those minutes dont count. I have despised minutes and seconds that would have been spent better. Infact, other times I have lied to myself that those five minutes wont make a difference in prayer. I have instead used those precious five minutes on social media checking out what people are saying. Ring a bell? Everyone has 24 hours in a day, we use every second of it for what we prioritize.

The second lie involves wasting my ”now” thinking that tomorrow is a better day to do it. So instead of accomplishing my goals in time, I have procrastinated thinking i have so much time to do it later. It is sad not to have urgency on the things of God but always creating tome for worldly pleasures.

This is what the Bible says:

“Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.” (Romans 13:11). ”Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” Matthew 24:42). “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 3:2)

Wait a second. No! my friend, don’t wait for any second. You will waste that second. Value every moment and use it to fulfill your assignment. That minute in prayer matters! Those hours in your Bible study fellowship matter. Seize every second to grow your relationship with God! The kingdom of God is at hand.

May the Lord grant us the grace to treat out spirituality with the urgency it deserves. So much can happen in s second; lets take advantage while we still can

  1. A very good piece. It’s true, that one minute I usually take to go through social media instead of praying or doing my Bible study.
