It is that time of the year that people talk about their achievements. I have personally seen a few posts on social media; houses have been built, families established, graduations, promotions, business growth, and much more. We also have many people posting photos of their families, giving thanks to the Lord for sustaining them this year. God commands us to be grateful, so this is a good thing.
However, it has been a tough year, many goals have not been met, in fact, so many people have lost their friends and family members and also their investments. The pandemic has affected everyone globally in one way or the other. Maybe as you look at people counting their blessings your heart is filled with jealousy, maybe you are asking God why bad things had to happen to you this year. Well, this morning, be encouraged: Pause, and count your own blessings. You cannot be grateful and jealous at the same time.
If you spend time counting other people’s blessings, you become blind to your own. No matter how harsh the year has been, you too can count your blessings. Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” God wills for us to count our blessings, He says as long as we have breath we have reasons to praise Him. As the year ends, it is not time to cry and murmur about 2020, it’s time to count, it’s time to focus on the miracles we have experienced; the miracle of life.
Praise the Lord as you count your blessings, do not forget His benefits.
