It’s Time To Come Home

Home to me represents safety; One of the reasons I turned out okay in life is because of the covering I found at home. I made mistakes as a young girl, but not enough to be chased from home, I always knew I have a home to go back to. I visited people and lived with relatives, but it never felt like home. I am now a married woman with my own home, but I still have that safe feeling whenever I go home.

We read about the prodigal son in Luke 15. He asked his father for his share of the estate and left home. “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.” I used to read this story and wonder how stupid he was, why did he leave? How can you leave such safety and security? How can you leave a place of full provision and love?

Well, it is because he thought that he could survive away from home. Soon enough, he came to his senses and went back home. This morning I have been thinking of reasons people leave home: By home, I mean the secret place of the Most High, where we are called to dwell as children of God. A place where we are delivered, sheltered, and covered. Many leave thinking they can make it on their own, others leave because of pride, others leave because of sin, others leave because of impatience; the list is endless.

If you left because of any reason, I have some good news for you: a celebration awaits! God is calling you back home. It doesn’t matter how long you have been away, it doesn’t matter what you have done while away; God is ready to receive you. You do not belong in the pig pen, you should not be eating with the pigs: It’s time to come home! Love awaits!
