In one of my recent YouTube videos on my show ’50 Years Of Marriage’ I hosted a friend and former workmate. She is happily married and everyone around her knows it. However, her marriage is very private, not so many people who know her husband and children. When I asked why, she was very clear. ‘I work my marriage behind the scenes, it is what I do in the secret that makes my marriage stand’

That became the topic of this video ‘Marriage Behind the scenes’ many times we think that showing off and seeking validation in the public is what makes us happy. We at times want to show the world how happy we are, and even if we are not, we are okay with the world thinking we are.

Jesus talk about ‘the secret place’ He warns us in Matthew 6 of practicing our righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them. He says that ‘when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others.’ Instead of showing off our religious acts, He adds ‘But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.’

There is power in the secret place. It may be lonely and at times scary, but we are never alone in the secret place. Our heavenly father sees you interceding in secret, He sees you giving to the needy, He sees you loving those around you, He sees your acts of kindness, He sees you reading His word: Great is your reward! Keep working behind the scenes, at the proper time, it will show. The fruits of the secret place cannot be hidden.
