I used to be very prayerful

‘Hi Rawder, I used to be very prayerful years back, I don’t know what happened but nowadays I rarely pray. I don’t even read the Bible. I would like to come back to the Lord, I have strayed for so long. I don’t even think God remembers me, I have let Him down. What should I do?’

I get the above message on my inbox very often. Not just about prayer and reading the Bible and even attending church services and Bible study sessions. The first thing that comes to mind after reading such is, How I pray that they go to God with the same message. How honest and raw, just the way we need to express ourselves to God. At times we are more honest with our mentors and spiritual leaders than we are with God. We go to human beings with real words as we prepare to hand pick specific words to pray with. Well, it is important to seek help from people and counselors. But it is more important to seek help from God, and approach Him with all honesty.

Back to the question, many of us are spiritually disconnected and hopeless. You have been prayerless for so long that you start thinking it has changed God. The Bible says that nothing can separate us from the love of God. (Romans 8:31) So no matter how far you have strayed, you are never too far gone for His love. You can come back today. All it takes is you talking to God and asking for the restoration, it takes you picking your Bible and getting back to studying it.

Our spiritual lives can be restored. There is hope even foe a tree that has been cut, it shall sprout back again. In Ezekiel 37 we are reminded that dry bones can live again. ‘He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “O Sovereign LORD, you alone know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, `Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.’ Today is your day of spiritual restoration. Arise and walk back in all honesty, tell God about your desire to come back. He never forgot about you. He never seized to be God.

I pray that you not only go back to the dedication and zeal you had for Christ but that it will grow and surpass your expectation. That your joy will be found in loving God with all your heart, all your mind and all your soul.

Selah
