I Know You

Has your name ever worked for your favour? So once in church, I was a new member, not known by many, well, my face I guess. My body had not yet caught up with my voice, I was a bit unknown by church members. I was to rush to work after the service but had a membership interview, I walk into the building where the interview was to take place and find a very long queue, making that queue would make me very late for working, missing the interview would mean waiting another year to become a member of the church. As I was trying to figure out what to do, someone patted me on the shoulder, a lady belonging to the leadership of the church, I dint even know her name, but she instructed me to follow her to another room. Apparently she was in charge the interviews and saw me at the back, in her words ‘I know you and I know you are supposed to go to work, I always listen to you on Sundays’. Within minutes I was done with the interviews and was at work in good time.

Maybe that favour is not big enough, and being known by a church elder is not news to you. Well, I have received more grace and benefits by another name I acquired years ago. Being known as a child of God came with a complete transformation for me, with so many benefits. Bigger than queue jumping, this name has worked for me since I acquired it, this name changed my life. Knowing that I am known by God and He is always watching over me and making things work out for my good, gives me peace and rest. The times I fall short of His glory, He tells me, ‘I know you, I love you and I paid the price for your sin’  The times I am in need He tells me, ‘I Know you, all that you need my hand has provided’ when I feel weak and weary, He says ‘I know you, come to me, and I will give you rest’ When I am sick in my body He says ‘ I know you, I am your healer’. Because God knows me, I am safe, I am secure, I am shielded, I am loved, I am cared for, I am forgiven.

God is all knowing, He knows everyone, but until we come to the realization of being known by Him we miss out on the benefits and favour that come with being known by Him. It is not enough just to be known as God’s creation, you need to be known as a child of God: Totally surrendered to His Lordship, living under His cover. Experiencing the joy, peace and mercy that is freely given to His children. In Him we are not afraid, we are not anxious, we are not confused, because every time we are reminded that we are known by the all-powerful mighty God who is in charge of the universe. He knows you by name; He knew you before you knew Him. Jeremiah 1:1 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Find rest in believing that you are known by God. That’s all that matters, human beings are temporary, so their favours are temporary, but being known by God comes with eternal values. He knew you while you were still a sinner, and sent His only son to die for you. You were forgiven before you knew it, today, don’t ignore His voice; He knows what is best for you. Don’t ignore His presence; trust that He is at work in your life: Allow the new name you acquired in Christ to work for you.
