I don’t understand

Many times God does not make sense, but we are not called to understand, we are called to obey. We sometimes refuse to allow God to take His place because we are busy analyzing His instructions and trying to make sense before obeying. I have come to learn that not understanding is not an excuse for not obeying. After all God uses the weak and stupid; something that may not make sense. Today, I would like to remind you that God is sure about using you, even when He gives ‘crazy’ instructions, He knows what He is doing.

God asked a weak farmer, Gideon, to lead an army, then he cuts his army from 32,000 men to 300 men saying ‘You have too many men’ This does not make sense, one needs a big army to go into battle, common sense does not tell us to reduce an army for a massive fight. The enemy was already too big!  It’s like saying you have too much money to take you through the family crisis, or you have too much food for the coming dry season. As if this is not crazy enough, God sends Gideon to the Midianite camp and listen to what the enemy is saying!

Well, Gideon overhears the enemy share about a dream which was interpreted as “the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands.” This gave Gideon courage and He worshipped God. Well, God instructed them to do another crazy thing, to go into battle with trumpets, pitchers, torches and their voices. Crazy, right? Well, ultimately the enemy was defeated and peace reigned in Israel. Gideon did not have to understand, all he did was obey.

God is not intimidated by the enemy. He does things that are not logical, not natural, but He is the powerful creator of the heavens and the earth.  It’s okay to be weak and unqualified; His power is made perfect in our weakness. Today, God may not be making sense, instructing you to give when you are in lack, instructing you to let go, yet you need it, instruction you to slow down when everyone else is running faster. Just obey. Do exactly what He tells you to do: You are not alone.

Maybe you are convinced that the situation is too big, maybe God is not doing exactly what ‘He should be doing’ in such a case. Keep looking to Jesus, if God is for you, who can be against you? God is bigger than that marriage crisis, that financial problem; ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’ Isaiah 55:9

God does not have to make sense to be God: Even when He does not make sense, trust and obey.

  1. Trusting God and obeying him. The keys to live in harmony with him. I have not been called to understand God but to obey him. Yes, I believe that his grace is sufficient for his power is made manifest in weakness.
