When people ask me how I am doing, I tell the majority that I am fine. That’s a default answer for many people, but it never fools those close to me. I have friends who can tell when I am not okay even by texting. Even for such, I choose what to say; sometimes I also choose to insist that I am fine. At times I resist from opening up to people because in the past, they never helped, in fact some made things even worse. Again, most people who ask how I am doing don’t really want to know, it is just a greeting whose answer is ‘fine’; if I start pouring out myself to them, they might not even stick around.
With such experiences which we all have, it may be difficult to open up to God thinking that He is like man, very busy and not understanding. That is where we go wrong; God already knows you are not okay, and He even knows why, so hiding from Him does not make sense. Psalm 139 is my daily reminder that God knows. ‘You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways…’ The entire chapter is an assurance that God knows you inside out.
When you feel like no one understands, no one can help, no one cares and no one has time for you. Go to God, and talk to Him, tell Him exactly how you feel and what you desire. It doesn’t matter what you are going through, He is bigger than your biggest problem, He says we should come to Him even with our heavy laden, because He cares for us, and in Him we find rest. His word also says that His understanding no one can fathom. He is not like man who may not offer only help, He is our help.
Take out that mask, it can only fool man, but God cannot be fooled, He sees beyond the mask of religious activities. He knows exactly how you are doing; everything that concerns you is laid bare before Him. He even knows who you really are in private: Be encouraged today, your creator knows you and loves you unconditionally. All you need to do is go to Him and pour your heart to Him. He is your help; He knows your true needs and how to meet them. So, God is asking this morning, ‘how are you doing?’ Tell Him the Truth.
