Give It Up

I once heard a preacher say “nothing and nobody is worth going to hell for” She was talking about total surrender. Those words changed my life, in marriage I keep telling myself “nothing and nobody is worth losing my marriage for” because it’s all about giving up some things that don’t really matter. Imagine losing my marriage because of toothpaste, or because of salt, or because of my career. Well, some fights are not worth it, when all is said and done, I have to prioritize the bigger picture.

There are some small and big things I have had to give up because of my marriage, because of my children, because of my sanity. Anytime I get mad, I ask myself “Is it worth having a bad day for?” Will giving it up cost me a lot? Most of the time the things that make me mad are not even worth my time. I have also realized that satan has a bigger picture, he uses things that don’t matter to make us miss out on things that matter. Instead of having a joyous day, taking care of my family and meeting my goals, he makes me have a gloomy day and not give my all: all because of something so minor like my husband leaving his socks on the kitchen table!

In our Christian walk, some things are not worth losing our focus for. They are not worth missing out on the bigger picture. We need to let them go and surrender to God. 1st Peter 5:8 tells us to be careful and on guard, “ Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” He is after the bigger picture, he is after your salvation, after your Godly marriage and Godly offspring. Be alert. Colossians 3:2 reminds us to focus on things that matter, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Today look around you, what have you been holding on to? What relationships are you involved in? What habits take up most of your time? What plans do you have for the weekend? Are you bringing glory to God? Are those people and things worth going to hell for?

On that day when we shall stand before our creator, there shall be no time for explanations and excuses, it shall be a day for judgement .. and the judgement shall be final. Be alert, don’t play into the devils tricks, he is after your destiny. Give those things up! They are not worth going to hell for. They wont matter on judgement day. Focus on what will matter!

Dear Lord, we totally surrender to you. Help us give up things that are drifting us away from you. Help us to focus on the bigger picture, our kingdom agenda. Amen.
