I saw that message that makes me smile; ‘your battery is sufficiently charged.’ That message melts my heart. I left the house not thinking that I would need my phone charger for the rest of the day. Off I went about my daily business, found myself giving out the phone for some recording, took a million photos as always, made a few calls, spent some time texting and browsing. Before I knew it I had insufficient charge on my phone, the battery icon had changed colour from green to red. My phone does not last in that condition, before I know it the phone is always off.
I should always walk around with my charger right? I should always be prepared, especially now that I know how my phone. That is exactly how I reason when am found with low phone charge and with no charger at all. I sometimes wish my phone could go for a week without running low, or that someone invents a permanent battery that never goes out.
As a Christian, I make such wishes too, that I could just make one prayer in the beginning of the year and it covers me for a decade, or read one verse and have it in my heart to grow me spiritually for the rest of my life. But that is not possible at all, the same way I charge my phone often so as to sustain it, then I need to be spiritually charged as often as possible. Just like we cannot eat once a week and expect the food to sustain us for a week, then we should not rely on last week’s prayers, last year’s fast. Of course, yesterday’s prayers still matter, last year’s three days of fasting also matter, but they cannot keep you strong and growing, you need to feed and recharge often to avoid running dry. Our charger is God’s word.
You need to daily feed yourself with God’s word. It should be a priority; Deuteronomy 8:3, Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” We live by the word of God, without it we are weak. Paul reminds us to pray in the spirit at all times, (Ephesians 6:18) A Christian walking around on low spiritual charge can easily be swept off by the storms; they can be easily swayed to the other side. But he who prioritizes being charged daily cannot be caught unawares, they are strong, and when the winds and waves come, they shall stand. It all depends with whether plugging in to God’s word is a priority to you.
Are you reading this yet your spiritual charge is on the danger zone, maybe you have received a warning that you need to charge through the word, or in prayer. Your heart is weary and weak. I have good news, God is ready and willing to recharge your spiritual battery, He says ‘come to me, all ye who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest’ Come to Jesus, read your word and pray, He will renew your strength, He will refresh you, He will give you a new heart and a new spirit, He will direct your steps and cover you. Get plugged in today.
