This word ‘freedom’ has been used a lot by Kenyans in this elections season. Everyone tends to believe that their political candidate will bring some form of freedom. You have probably seen #FreedomIsComing #Freedom #FreedomIsHere #FreedomIsNotFree trending on social media. Of course the phrases have bee used to depict different political agendas. We are a people that have come a long way and still have a long way to go in terms of the hope and trust we put on politicians. Well, it is good to be part of the politics of the nation and play our roles as Christians, but let us remember where our true freedom is found.
Let’s say the candidate you have been supporting is sworn in. Will you really be free? Yes, they may make the best president ever, the best leader for our nation and even propagate the gospel. Will that make you free? I am not talking about putting food on your table and finally getting your dream job. Which, might happen thanks to the new president. I am talking about the freedom of your soul, I am talking about what happens when all is said and done, after you have achieved all your worldly ambitions and dreams, what next? I am talking about the freedom that comes in knowing who you are and whose you are. True freedom that is not found through politics or even through a president.
Is freedom here? Is freedom coming? Are you seated in your house waiting for someone to be sworn in so that you can be free?
Well, here is the news. Someone already died for you to be free: Jesus. He went through so much pain and shame so that you and I could be set free. Real freedom comes in knowing Christ and living for Him. This freedom sets us free from the lies of the enemy, we are no longer bound by the enemy as God’s word says. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1. This freedom sets us free from the past since we are now a new creation. True authentic freedom is only found in Christ.
No human being holds your freedom. No human can set you free. No human is free outside Christ.
Today, pursue true freedom, not a one minute feel good emotion but total freedom; be set free from every entanglement of the enemy and live an abundant life. Be free indeed. “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36
