One of the Bible verses that I frequently choose to ignore, but have apparently known it by heart is from Matthew 5:44 ‘But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven’
I don’t know about you, I sometimes find it so hard to pray for people that I dislike, those who dislike me, and those who go out of their way to make my life hard. I am guilty of asking God to make them go through the pain they caused me. But God reminded me of Matthew 5:44. And when it seemed hard for me to obey, He introduced me to Proverbs 16:7: ‘When the LORD takes pleasure in anyone’s way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them.’
As I write this, I have seen dislikes turning into likes by getting on my knees. I have come to learn that the best way to get rid of enemies is to turn them into friends through prayer. Bitterness and unforgiveness towards them only makes things worse. Revenge is fruitless; only takes away your energy and time.
Jesus commands us to pray for our enemies, that is one way of pleasing Him. He then causes people around you to be at peace with you. No matter the past enemities.
Today, think about that person/those people you dislike, those that you cant stand. Those that hurt you. Those that cause you trouble; and pray for them. prayer is the only way in.
