My house has very weak phone network, every time I get home I am disconnected from the world. I have other ways of communicating, so my close friends always know how to reach me. At first I was really uncomfortable, because most times when I stepped out my phone went crazy with notifications, people who had tried reaching me, some were important and urgent and some were not. On the other side, I love the peace, when I have been out all day, then I can creep into my peaceful haven and rest without disruptions. It also gave me a lot of time to connect with my family. It’s almost two years now, and I have grown from complaining because of weak network, finding a few spots in the house where there is a good connection to forgetting I own a phone once I am in the house. As long as I am able to work and do the necessary, the phone can remain untouched for hours.
That is how some relationships die as well, two people who used to be in each other’s space all the time, talking for hours, knowing everything in each other’s lives, slowly fade off from each other’s air, and gradually become strangers. It has happened to me, some of my former best friends are now strangers, we are not enemies, but we are not just as close, maybe because of change of environment, change of situation or even misunderstandings in the relationship.
One’s relationship with God may also dwindle in the same way. Well, you are very close and connected, and then something happens: It may be good or bad. Let’s talk about the good, this is when God blesses you and you lose touch because you are now very busy taking care of your blessings. On the other side, sometimes trials and tribulations may move one away from God. At first one has concerns over the fact that they are a bit disconnected, some even complain, desiring to go back to full ministry, or spend more time with God. Then we try fix God in our schedules, knowing a few spots here and there where we can fix a connection, then before you know it, you are comfortable with very little or no connection at all. This is tragedy for every believer.
God calls us to stay connected to Him. He says He is the true vine and we are the branches, if we remain in Him, and He in us, then we shall bear much fruit, but if we are not connected to Him then we can do nothing. The word of God says that If anyone does not remain in God, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. But if we remain in Him and His words remain in us, we shall ask whatever we wish, and it will be given us. The secret is in staying connected, no matter what. (John 15:1-8)
Your situation does not matter, your environment does not matter; all that matters is to stay connected to the true vine. Not fixing connection moments in our busy schedules, not looking for connection when things are bad. But staying connected always. God knew we would be distracted, He knew there would come times we would want to quit, but He says if we want to bear fruit, and receive breakthrough as we make our requests known to Him, then we should stay connected: Remain in Him.
May God help us all.
