The fish have no idea how sweet they are to us, they don’t know that most of us only think of them as part of our meals. While the fish is busy minding their business under water, the fisherman is busy looking for ways to catch it. The fisherman spends time looking for tools, studies the fish to know how best to capture, gets the best bait to lure the fish, he knows where the fish is and what time; he even estimates how many he will capture in a day, All this is happening without the knowledge and the input of the fish. I have no idea if fish see what happens to other fish and take precaution, but your guess is as good as mine, they have no idea. The fisherman makes sure that the bait looks like what the fish is used to eating, so that they go for it without thinking twice. The fish have no idea how we plan for them before they are even captured.
The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8 ‘Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.’ Just like fish, as we mind our own business each day, satan is looking for ways to steal kill and destroy. He studies our moves, knows where we hang out, what we do, and even has a bait for each one of us. He dangles the good looking carrot right under our noses to lure us into sin. The Bible also says that we are lured and enticed by our own desires. (James 1:12) So when we desire sexual intimacy outside marriage, satan presents the bait to satisfy that desire, and the bait comes looking good, it almost looks exactly like the right thing, the bait may come clothed in memory verses and gospel music.
Unlike the fish, we are aware of the devils schemes and agenda and we have the power to resist the bait. Most of the time we are not caught unawares, we are lured slowly but surely, we even find ourselves seeking for the bait, by going where we are not supposed to go, watching things we are not supposed to watch. If you are born again, you have the Holy spirit as your helper, He whispers to you and cautions you when a bait is presented before you. We need to be spiritually alert, not letting down our guard, because satan is daily looking for ways to destroy us. We should as well daily look for ways and tactics that will help us stand stronger; those ways include reading God’s word and praying. That is how we will know whether it is food or it is bait.
Today, I know you have plans, you have things to do, satan also has things to do, they basically revolve around stealing killing and destroying. Do not be afraid; he is powerless. You have an upper hand, because you know his job description and you know how to overcome and fight back. God is on your side, His wisdom and courage is upon you. Beware of satan’s bait today, honour God with the choices you make, be faithful to your master.
