It feels so good to be selected or appointed among many for a specific task. It is such an honour and privilege. I know that feeling, going for an interview and being selected among many candidates. Applying for opportunities and being selected among many, being chosen by my husband as his wife, forsaking many other ladies. We may not always see it, but we have been given individual tasks and responsibilities by God, in which case we don’t need to apply or campaign. All we need to do is be what we have been called and commanded to do.
In Luke 17:11-19 Jesus heals ten men with leprosy, they actually called out to him asking for the miraculous healing. Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priests, and as they went they were cleansed. ‘One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.’ Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
One of the things we have been called to do is to give thanks to the Lord at all times. Many don’t, many wont, even after experiencing miracles, many will walk away: But not you. Today I pray that you be the one who came back, the one who decided not to receive and run but receive and return. The one who does not take for granted the privilege and honour of being a child of God, the one who takes seriously the appointments and commandments. You may not have much, but be the one who takes all they have to the Lord, available for His service.
Maybe you are concerned about the nine. Where are they? Well, we cannot plan with those who are not present; you are the one who is present here and now. You are the one who will serve God faithfully, when the churches are filled with pretenders and you are the one who will stand firm in God’s truth. When everyone else’s motive is selfish, you are the one who will serve and worship in spirit and in truth. You are the chosen one, don’t look at the nine who have left, don’t look at the ones who were healed years ago, you have been called individually.
Be the one who keeps coming back to serve, the one who keeps giving, be the one who keeps praising. Be the one who keeps repenting and coming back to God’s loving arms. Instead of complaining, be the one who comes back with a grateful heart. Many will be healed; few will come back with gratitude, be the one who returns. Be the one who doesn’t just take the blessing but comes back to be a blessing. You have been chosen among many, take up the challenge and be the one: It feels good to be the one.
Today God has given you all you need to be the one. He has called you and commanded you to be the one. So be the one.
