So many things make me happy in my current daily routine. Let’s start with my morning tea, reading my books, having conversations with friends and family, journaling, my cooking turning out right, talking long relaxing walks, snacking, watching predictable Christmas movies. They may seem small and little but they do wonders to my heart. Nonetheless, even when I do all these in a day, it is never enough.
You also have a list of things that calm you and make you happy. It can be as simple as a great internet connection. It can also be as big as flying around the world and touring great places. No matter what your list entails, it can never be enough for your soul. Your list plus much more, would still not be enough.
The woman at the well thought that water was what she needed to quench her thirst. But Jesus introduced her to another kind of water; the kind which will cause her to thirst no more. (John 4) Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
This means that Jesus is the joy, the peace, the provision, the shelter, the shield, the help, the satisfaction, the abundant life that we are looking for. He is actually all these plus much more. He is the ‘I am’; this means that all that you need is found in Him. He says; ‘I am your all in all’ So, remember your list of things that make you happy? Those plus much more without Jesus amount to nothing. But with Jesus, we have all we need plus much more!
Today, focus on Jesus, seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness; in Him, we have a promise of eternal life.
